'Gossip Girl' Gets Full Season Order

Did you hear? S and B's catty little games will continue now that The CW has picked up a full season of "Gossip Girl."

"People everywhere are talking about 'Gossip Girl' and we believe this show will continue to build audience as it builds buzz," says Dawn Ostroff, the network's president of entertainment. "Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have created an incredibly heightened-reality world that viewers are locking into while advertisers, affiliates and press have also embraced the show. The series has earned its early pick-up and we look forward to a long run on The CW."

"Gossip Girl" is based on the popular young adult novels by Cicely von Ziegesar and focuses on the backstabbing, evil machinations, jealousies and one-upmanship played out among the elite teens at two private boarding schools on the Upper East Side. The freshman series stars Blake Lively as Serena, the golden girl protagonist who returns to town after a year away at boarding school, only to find that her best friend Blair (Leighton Meester) isn't happy to have her back. The show also stars Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, Taylor Momsen, Connor Paolo, Matthew Settle, Kelly Rutherford and the voice of Kristen Bell narrating as the anonymous blogger Gossip Girl.

Although the numbers have only indicated about 3 million viewers tuning in on Wednesdays for the new teen soap, the percentage of those that are teens and young women has been promising, especially given The CW's love of the young demo. This includes factoring in DVR viewership. The show has averaged a 2.8 rating/share in women 18-34, 1.9/5 in adults 18-34 and 4.7/15 in female teens.

"Gossip Girl" is the first new series picked up for a full season of episodes on The CW in its sophomore year.
