24 Makes Time for Two More

24 has put two more on the payroll.

Jeffrey Nordling, who most recently played Brent Barrow on the FX sitcom Dirt, is joining the clock-ticking series as a regular, playing an FBI agent named Larry, per the Hollywood Reporter. He'll continue to appear on Dirt in a recurring role.

Nordling previously starred as Jake Manning on ABC's Once and Again from 1999 to 2002. His credits also include recurring roles on NBC's Providence and Fox's Melrose Place, as well as guest appearances on shows including CSI, Judging Amy and Crossing Jordan.

Also clocking in for a recurring role on the Fox drama is John Billingsley, most recently seen on ABC's short-lived series The Nine. Details on his character, Latham, have yet to be revealed.

Other new additions to the show for the upcoming seventh season include Janeane Garofalo as FBI systems analyst Janie Gold, an agent assigned to the team investigating the latest crisis befalling Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) & Co.

In July, Tony winner Cherry Jones was cast as the series' new commander in chief, with Colm Feore set to play her husband.

Production on the new season of 24 was recently delayed a second time in order to give writers more time to develop the story line.

Shooting is now due to commence Sept. 10.

Victoria Beckham to guest star on `Ugly Betty'

Victoria Beckham, now living in Los Angeles, is going Hollywood. Despite her recent denials about being interested in an acting career, Beckham, aka Posh Spice, is taking a first step by playing herself on an episode of the ABC comedy "Ugly Betty" this coming TV season.

In announcing the casting Thursday, the network said Beckham will play a celebrity bridesmaid at the wedding of Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) and publisher Bradford Meade (Alan Dale).

Posh moved from England to L.A. in July after her soccer-star husband, David, signed a five-year contract to play for the Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

At the time, she denied that she had aspirations for an acting career. She's slated to take part in a Spice Girls reunion tour beginning in December, and has launched her own fashion label called dVb and her own line of fragrances.

"Ugly Betty" returns for its second season on Sept. 27.

Rostam Comic Book

In 2000, childhood friends, Bruce Bahmani, Jamie Douraghy, and Cameron Douraghy; while working on the “Truth” anti-smoking campaign created a customized comic book targeting Asian American teenagers who smoke.

The project proved to be very successful with more than a million issues being printed and distributed. Their collective experience on this project inspired them to express the action adventure stories they had grown up with from the Shahnameh, in this Rostam Comic Book.

"Rostam tales from the Shahnameh" is the latest project. Adapted from the rich verse of Ferdowsi the famous Persian poet, the epic tales of valor, bravery, and devotion are for the first time adapted to the American comic genre. Rostam is the hero-champion of a mythical land of Persia. Dedicated to protecting her throne from all invaders and usurpers, Rostam faces outer threats as well as his own inner demons, a glimpse of our own humanity.

In the first installment in what hoped will be a long lasting series, Rostam must face the newest threat to the throne of Persia, the mighty and younger Sohrab. Hand drawn and meticulously inked, this book has been in development for over 5 years. Every detail, including weaponry, architecture, and clothing was inspired by original Persian culture and created especially to compliment the rich storyline.

Kate Walsh: I turned into a Bridezilla!

Kate Walsh says she had a Bridezilla moment while prepping for her upcoming wedding.

"I had a fitting a few days ago and who knew someone could get that hysterical about a bra!" the 39-year-old actress tells syndicated TV show "Entertainment Tonight" in an interview that was to air Wednesday.

"I said, `It's not the right bra, it's not the right bra.' The sad part was there was a mirror there, so I had to see my face turn to stone, snakes coming out of my hair. It was bad. I can't believe I had a meltdown over a bra!"

Walsh became engaged to studio executive Alex Young in May. "I'm living a very good dream," she tells "ET."

She stars in the new ABC series "Private Practice," a spinoff from "Grey's Anatomy." She continues to play her popular "Grey's" character, Dr. Addison Shepherd, who leaves Seattle for work in Los Angeles.

"Private Practice," which also stars Taye Diggs and Tim Daly, premieres Sept. 26.

`Heroes' actors hint at what lies ahead

They saved the cheerleader, they saved the world — for now. But the superpeople of NBC's "Heroes" return with a new round of intrigue next month.

Like, whatever happened to Hiro? In May's first-season finale, the adventuresome time-traveler — who can bend the space and time continuum — found himself surrounded by samurai warriors in 17th century Japan as an eclipse darkened the sky. How ominous.

With the Sept. 24 premiere approaching, cast member James Kyson Lee, who plays Hiro's sidekick Ando Masahashi, offers these tidbits: The next chapter in the "Heroes" saga picks up four months after the near-destruction of the world. Hiro (Masi Oka) remains in ancient Japan; Non-superpowered is living in the present day. Still, the two will be in touch.

"There is going to be a really interesting channel of communication between us," Lee tells The Associated Press.

"How that's going to happen, you'll have to find out on the 24th. But it will be a fascinating way of storytelling. And what happens in one timeline will affect the other," he says.

The plot also thickens for other "Heroes":

• Noah Gray-Cabey, who plays the precocious son of good/evil single mom Niki (Ali Larter), hints at bigger things for his character.

"I'll say that Micah is definitely stepping out of his comfort zone," he tells the AP. "And he's going to be meeting some new people, possibly even family."

• A new character named Maya (Dania Ramirez) struggles with a developing power. Sound familiar?

"I have a brother, Alejandro, and we're coming to the U.S. to try to find out what's going on with me," Ramirez says. "I don't fully understand what's happening to me. However, my ability has me on the run." (via AP)

Matt LeBlanc Sued for Friends Money

Apparently, Matt LeBlanc isn't very friendly with his former business manager these days.

Camille Cerio, who represented the actor from April 1994 until the end of 1995, filed suit against the actor in Los Angeles Superior Court Monday, alleging that he owes her at least $1 million in unpaid commissions from his earnings on Friends and its spinoff, Joey.

In her court documents, Cerio cited a 1994 letter in which LeBlanc agreed to pay her 15 percent of his income for the "pilot and series derived from Friends Like Us"—the original title of the hit NBC sitcom.

She claims she was entitled to receive commission for as long as LeBlanc received income from Friends and Joey, but that the payments stopped in 2000. Friends concluded in 2004, while Joey was canceled in 2006.

Cerio said that LeBlanc told her last year that he would give her an accounting of his earnings from the series and promised to make good on the outstanding payments. She claims that he has yet to do so.

Her lawsuit seeks a full accounting of LeBlanc's earnings from Friends and Joey since 2000 and a court order for payment of all outstanding commissions, plus court costs and expenses.

The actor's attorney had yet to comment on the suit. (via E! Online)

Miami Beach: Indian Creek Hotel

I always want to have a good holiday at Miami Beach, and on the other hand, as the place you spend most time with, hotel is a key point. Today I want to introduce a very impressive nice hotel at Miami: Indian Creek Hotel.

Slightly north of South beach, is a small hotel Indian Creek Hotel constructed in 1936, and has recently been acquired by The New York Inns Hotel Group. Under new Management, the hotel has been renovated; the rooms were equipped with brand new furniture, bedding and hardwood floors. New amenities were added - a Wi-Fi wireless broadband Internet access, which is available to the guests in every room, public areas, as well as a pool and garden.

From one the Beach's first self-operating to period steam trucks in the lobby. The modest rooms are outfitted in Art Deco furnishing with pretty tropical printed and all modern amenities. Just one short block from a good spread of sand the hotel is perfectly situated from the hectic scenes on South Beach, yet closes enough to walk to most activities. A landscaped pool is a great place to lounge in the sun.

There is daily maid service, and a new restaurant - Creek 28 - under the leadership of critically acclaimed executive chef Kira Volz opened last November.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" dominated the seventh-annual Teen Choice Awards Sunday, taking honors for Choice Movie: Action Adventure.

The movie's stars Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Bill Nighy also took home awards.

"High School Musical 2" also scored with Choice TV: Movie, as did two of its stars. Zac Efron was dubbed "Choice Male Hottie" and Vanessa Hudgens "Choice Music Breakout Artist: Female."

The Disney Channel movie's presence was felt early in the show, which opened with a 50th-reunion spoof, replacing the youthful cast members with senior citizens.

Even "Choice Comedian" Dane Cook thanked the "HSM2" team, joking, "I couldn't have done this without you."

Sophia Bush was the night's biggest competitive individual-category winner, scoring three awards: Choice Movie Breakout: Female, Choice Movie Actress: Horror/Thriller for "The Hitcher" and Choice Movie Actress: Comedy for "John Tucker Must Die."

Justin Timberlake also scored multiple honors. He won for Choice Music: Male Artist, Choice Music: Payback Track for "What Goes Around . . ..," and was honored with a special, Teen Choice answer to a lifetime-achievement award, "Ultimate Choice."

For all of the show's celebration of youth, it was 53-year-old John Travolta who seemed to cause the biggest stir with the 6,000-plus member audience, generating screams and a standing ovation as he walked to the stage to accept the Choice Summer Movie: Comedy/Musical for "Hairspray."

Hosted by one-time kid stars Hilary Duff and Nick Cannon, the show was telecast by Fox Sunday night from the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Studios Hollywood, with awards doled out at lightning speed.

Presenters blasted through more than 30 categories in less than two hours. Musical performers included Shop Boyz, Kelly Clarkson, as well as winners Avril Lavigne, and Fergie, the latter giving the night's most emotional acceptance speech.

"This award isn't paid for. This award isn't traded for favors," she said, while tearing up. "This is picked by you."

The awards are selected by the teen-voting public, who had been submitting picks online since July 2. Instead of statuettes, winners received life-size surfboards.

Jordin Sparks - Tattoo (HQ Audio) with lyrics!

Jordin Sparks' debut single "Tattoo" from her debut album which will be released on November 20.

Ellen Pompeo on Friends

Grey's Anatomy's Ellen Pompeo in L.A. Confidential

Thanks to the many fans who alerted us to this interview. It is, as the magazine bills it, just what the doctor ordered.

In a candid conversation with Ellen Pompeo, who’s every bit as outspoken as she is stylish, L.A. Confidential Magazine gives us one of the best looks yet at the Grey’s Anatomy star we’ve come to know and love.

If Pompeo had to write an essay on “What I Did on My Summer Vacation,” it would probably be about the globe-trotting she’s done - New York, Paris, Japan — in the weeks leading up to the new season of her hit show.

It’s been a wild ride for the 37-year-old Boston native, who got engaged in November to fellow Bostonian Chris Ivery.

Ellen Pompeo’s first blip on the Hollywood radar came as Jake Gyllenhaal’s love interest in Moonlight Mile (2002).

She popped up again here and there in smaller roles in memorable movies like Old School and Catch Me If You Can. But in 2005, Grey’s Anatomy suddenly thrust her fully into the spotlight.

Pompeo shines as Meredith Grey, the intern whose sexual exploits and professional struggles are chronicled in excruciating detail each week, much to the delight of the show’s 25 million-plus loyal viewers who keep tuning in to ogle Grey’s McLoveInterest du jour.

Unlike her character, however, Ellen Pompeo is anything but indecisive.

Full of opinions on everything from young Hollywood to the media, Pompeo just calls it like she sees it - a refreshing trait in a town where honesty is so rarely the best policy.

“I just think the media should take this country in a different direction. We’re so focused on the wrong things,” she says. “We’re teaching young girls that this is what they should be focusing on: rich and famous girls who are rich and famous for nothing. What are we doing to this younger generation? It’s not very responsible.”

Follow the jump to read Ellen’s interview …

Los Angeles Confidential: You’ve been traveling a lot during your hiatus. Is that how you typically spend your time off?
Ellen Pompeo: I think it’s important as an actor to get away and experience different cultures. It enriches you. I’m fortunate that the show’s in so many different countries and that they’re nice enough to invite us [to visit]. They treat us so wonderfully. You know, I spend 10 months of the year in Los Angeles, acting. So I think it’s really important to travel and have rich real-life experiences to bring to my acting when I come back to the show. Your whole life can’t be about work or Hollywood.

LAC: And planning your wedding? When will you fit that in?
EP: Oh my goodness. I swear we’re going to get married at some time. We’re just trying to fit it all in. It won’t be a big ceremony — we want one thing to ourselves.

LAC: A lot of TV actors make movies while they’re on hiatus. You started out in film; do you still have an interest in that?
EP: Certainly, and I get a lot of very interesting offers from some pretty remarkable people, but I can’t take advantage of them because the show doesn’t let me. I’m lucky the show is so successful: I never have to do another movie I’m not proud of. I can be super, super picky. So unless it’s an A-list director and an A-list script, and an A-list cast, I don’t really have the desire to be in movies just to prove that I can. I know I can, because I came from movies.

LAC: You’re contracted for six seasons, right?
EP: Yes, although I just signed on for a seventh. The show could end tomorrow, but if they want me for seven seasons, I have to oblige. I’ve committed to them. They can let us go anytime they want, but we can’t leave anytime we want.

LAC: On that topic, during the Isaiah Washington controversy you seemed to steer clear of making any substantive comment on his being fired from the show. Is that because you feel there’s not much for you to say?
EP: I think so. It’s better to not exacerbate it. I think everybody’s tired of it. For me, what’s important is to move forward, do whatever I can personally to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.

LAC: Another thing that’s been done to death in your past interviews is this obsession with your weight. Why do you think people care so much?
EP: I guess it’s a normal question from the media because I’m really thin. The dangerous thing about it is that I get a ton of fan mail from little girls — from seven years old to 16 — about how they love me and I’m a role model for them. And I think the media is really irresponsible in portraying me as having an eating disorder. I just worry about the girls who look up to me — I don’t want them to think I starve myself or don’t eat, and that to be like me that’s what they have to do.

LAC: Why is it so hard for people to wrap their heads around the fact that some women are naturally thin?
EP: You know what’s funny? I understand if you see a picture of someone who was 40 pounds heavier three years before; then the weight loss is very dramatic and obvious. But you’ll never find a picture of me where I’m a lot heavier than I am now. I’ve only ever fluctuated two to three pounds in my whole [adult] life.

LAC: Do you have any interest in having children of your own someday?
EP: I do. I do. With the show, I just don’t know if it’s entirely fair to myself and to everybody else right now. We’ll see what happens.

LAC: So after your travels you immediately start work on season four. What would you like to see happen to Meredith this year? Last season was kind of bananas…
EP: [Laughs] Yeah, it was! I’m much better off not having any expectations. The reality is that I have to be Zen about it because I have absolutely no control over what they do. I’m just happy to have a job and I love my job, and I love the people I work with. Whatever happens, it’s OK. It’s not a bad way to make a living.

LAC: When did you realize Grey’s Anatomy was a hit? Was it clear to you from the minute you got the script?
EP: It was two years in, when I got invited to do the Oprah Winfrey Show. I thought, okay, well, this has clearly gone to another level now.

LAC: You’ve been nominated for a Golden Globe before. What’s your take on awards shows?
EP: Of course it’s nice to be nominated. I don’t live or die by it, but it’s very flattering. To be nominated would be a nice compliment. There are fantastic actresses in this category every year. But at end of the day, we’re not saving lives. We’re just actors.

LAC: Speaking of saving lives, now that you’ve been doing the show for a while, do you think you could perform a real-life medical procedure if you had to?
EP: [Laughs] Absolutely not! But I could call 911 very well.

LAC: Have you given any thought as to who you’ll be wearing to the Emmys?
EP: No, I haven’t, but I know I’ll be wearing something a lot lighter than last year. I’d just gotten back from the Dior couture show in Paris and I wore this beautiful velvet dress that John [Galliano] gave me. And it was gorgeous, but it was so hot.

LAC: Well, it’s always better to be comfortable at these things.
EP: [Laughs] Yeah, it is, but it’s kind of impossible. There’s no such thing as a comfortable gown.

Registry of Life

My grandpa passed away several years ago, I still miss him sometimes, and if I can gather his information, such as photos, audio etc. all on Internet, and like a homepage, that would be very nice. And today I find a website offers this service: Registry of Life .

Registry of Life was designed to commemorate and celebrate the lives of our loved ones who have predeceased us. A Living Registry helps with the important tasks of mourning and bereavement including commemorating the loss, acknowledging the reality of the loss, identifying and expressing the emotions of grief, and saying goodbye to those we love. The Registry of Life website also offers guidance and encouragement to the bereaved to tell their story and share their memories.

Dr. Wayne Dees is the founder of this impressive website. He began to work as a psychologist in 1998, in Los Angeles, California, and have worked with people of all ages who have grieved various losses in their lives. So it became evident that a Registry of the lives of their loved ones was needed to assist these individuals in coping with the grieving process and to tell their life story in words, pictures and music.

You can start the site with Living Registry. A Living Registry is an on-line memorial honoring and celebrating the lives of our loved ones who have passed away. Providing a footprint from the past to the present, the Registry provides a legacy in words, pictures and music that can be accessed by family, friends and others. With a Living Registry, you can easily create your own tribute website dedicated to your loved one. See a sample Registry.

Now they offer 14-Day Free Trial, You may create and set-up your Living Registry without cost. After the initial 14-day trial period, you will be assessed a one-time charge of $49.95.

`Anchorwoman' canceled after one airing

Here's news that Fox's series "Anchorwoman" wouldn't want to deliver: It's been canceled after one low-rated airing.

The debut of the reality show about Lauren Jones' attempt to turn herself into a news anchor for a Texas TV station drew an estimated 2.7 million viewers Wednesday, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen Media Research.

That number is about a third of the viewership Fox attracted a week earlier with the finale of its popular "So You Think You Can Dance."

Jones was a Barker Beauty on "The Price Is Right," Miss New York and featured WWE Diva before the series put her into the newsroom of KYTX Channel 19 in Tyler, Texas.

Unaired episodes of "Anchorwoman" will be available on Fox's website through Fox on Demand, the network said Thursday.

'Justice' Star Marooned joins 'Lost'

ABC has added another new name to "Lost" for the coming season, signing British-born actress Rebecca Mader to a guest role.

Elsewhere at the network, Emily Rose will have a recurring part on "Brothers & Sisters," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rose has also landed a part on CBS' "Jericho," which will return at midseason.

Mader, who was a regular on FOX's drama "Justice" last season, is the third new cast member added to "Lost" in recent days, along with Ken Leung ("The Sopranos," "Rush Hour") and "The Wire's" Lance Reddick. And as with her new cohorts, details about her character are being held close to the vest.

"Lost" will be Mader's second ABC credit of 2007-08. The actress, who's appeared on "Love Monkey" and "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," is also guest-starring on the premiere of "Private Practice."

At "Brothers & Sisters," meanwhile, Rose -- no relation to the 2005 movie "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" -- will appear in eight episodes as a friend of Rebecca's (Emily Van Camp) who gets a job with the Walker family. Trouble follows. Her role on "Jericho" hasn't been defined yet.

Rose had a recurring part on HBO's "John from Cincinnati" this summer.

PHIL HURLEY is the owner of a middle-market Texas news station, KYTX Channel 19. Desperate to turn the tide of his news rating woes and compete with the longtime ratings giant, Phil has shocked the station and town of Tyler, Texas, by bringing in a gorgeous model and ex-WWE diva with no previous news experience to be his next ANCHORWOMAN – all in hopes of reinventing the look of Channel 19 and overhauling its below-average 6 share to a number more like his competitor’s 36.

Former Miss New York and über-vixen LAUREN JONES packs up her Versace dresses and heads to Tyler, Texas, to start a new career. Can this bombshell make it as a serious reporter? Will she save KYTX, or make it the laughingstock of the Lone Star State? Lauren wants to show everyone she’s no airhead, and this is her big chance to prove she’s more than just a pretty face.

The entire newsroom thinks the boss has made a giant mistake. Reigning anchor ANNALISA PETRAGLIA is not about to lose her Queen Bee status to some L.A. hottie. This is not true. Casino Roulette is in reality a game of pure luck. It is a matter of chance who wins and who looses in the short run. In the long run however, the online casino always wins. Their house edge is actually quite high at 5.26%

My Opinion

It’s some certain risk on Internet money game. Just play carefully if you want. And don’t play all you have or entirely jump in the game. Have an open mind to deal with it, and don’t let it impact your life or work.

'Veronica Mars' star Kristen Bell joins 'Heroes'

NBC is adding former “Veronica Mars” star Kristen Bell to the cast of “Heroes.”

Peacock has snagged Bell for a key multiepisode arc of its sophomore sensation. Casting is a major coup for NBC since Bell -- who plays the title character in Judd Apatow’s upcoming “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” -- was reportedly being sought for several TV gigs, including a part on ABC’s “Lost.”

Bell will make her first “Heroes” appearance in October. She’ll play Elle, a character described as a sexy, mysterious young lady who has ties to the supposed death of Peter, H.R.G.’s past and the future of Claire. Elle will kick off her arc by committing a serious crime, though it’s unclear whether she’s good or bad.

“This was not easy to pull off,” said “Heroes” creator-exec producer Tim Kring. “But since we’re an ensemble show, with many arcs playing out through the year, we found a way to jump into a small window in (Bell’s) schedule.”

Universal Media Studios prexy Katherine Pope also hinted that landing Bell wasn't easy, noting that "many studios (were) chasing her in both film and TV" and that she was happy that Bell "chose to star in our show."

In addition to her gig in the Apatow pic, Bell co-stars in the Weinstein Co.’s upcoming “Fanboys” and supplies one of the voices in the 2008 animated Fox feature “Sheepish.” She also has another regular role on a network skein, voicing the narrator in CW’s new drama “Gossip Girl.”

Ryan Cabrera - I Will Remember You (lyrics, Video)

Ryan Cabrera - I Will Remember You. This song is so good at So You Think You Can Dance. You can find lyrics at this video. Enjoy it!

Sabra Johnson won "So You Think You Can Dance"

Sabra Johnson was named "America's Favorite Dancer" and won the $250,000 first prize on Fox's hit talent show "So You Think You Can Dance."

"I can't take the smile off my face, and it's hurting so bad," the 20-year-old from Roy, Utah, told The Associated Press after learning she won Thursday.

Four finalists had remained at the beginning of the finale: Neil Haskell, Lacey Schwimmer, Danny Tidwell and Johnson. Johnson emerged as the viewers' choice.

Show host Cat Deeley said a record-setting total of 16 million viewers called in votes for their favorite contestants after Wednesday's show.

"She's only been dancing for four years, and that's got to be inspirational for anybody out there watching this program and thinking, `Should I begin dancing?'" said Nigel Lythgoe, the series' executive producer and one of its judges.

Next up for the top 10 dancers is a 50-city tour. But what happens after that for America's Favorite Dancer?

"So I'm just hoping that now it kind of puts me where I want to be with choreographers knowing me and maybe getting shows that I wouldn't have otherwise gotten, because now people have seen what I can do," Johnson said.

This was the third season for the Emmy-nominated show. Judges narrowed the field to 20 after auditioning thousands of would-be contestants in Chicago, Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles.

Much like "American Idol," judges evaluated the dancers' routines, then viewers called in votes for their favorites.

'House' costars Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer called off engagement

Los Angeles (E! Online) - You know what they say about office romances...

House costars Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer, both 28, have called off their engagement, the couple announced Wednesday.

"After much consideration, we have decided not to get married," the duo, who have been an item both on the show and in real life for more than a year, said in a joint statement to People. "We are still very close, and we look forward to continuing to work together on House."

Ironically, their characters on Fox's hit medical drama had finally passed the friends-with-benefits stage and taken the plunge into a real relationship by the end of the third season.

Spencer popped the question over the Christmas holiday last year in Paris, offering up a ring in front of the Eiffel Tower and proposing in French. Morrison told InStyle Weddings last month that at first she didn't understand what her beau was up to.

"I was like, 'Uh, what are you doing?' " recalled Morrison, who also graced the special issue's cover. "He said, 'I'm asking you to marry me in French!' I was just staring at him. I don't speak French. And he said, 'Well, are you going to answer?' And I replied, 'Oh, yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!' "

They had been planning to tie the knot later this year in Los Angeles in front of about 200 of their nearest and dearest. Instead, it looks as if Chase and Cameron will be spending more time staring into a microscope than into each other's eyes. (Morrison and Spencer have dished about their on- and offscreen romance to E! Online's Watch with Kristin.)

Season three ended in May with both doctors seemingly leaving Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital for less curmudgeonly pastures, after Chase was fired and Cameron resigned. But both Morrison and Spencer, as well as Omar Epps, whose Dr. Eric Foreman also supposedly split, are returning to House in the fall, so show runner Dave Shore must have something else in mind for Hugh Laurie's resident trio of consciences.

Nevertheless, when the Emmy-nominated series' fourth season kicks off, the diagnostic wing will be more crowded than usual. Kal Penn, Olivia Wilde, Anne Dudek, Peter Jacobson and Edi Gathegi are all joining the cast as young doctors in competition to join House's team.

House fans can get in the mood before the Sept. 25 premiere by snagging the show's first soundtrack album, due out Sept. 18, featuring Massive Attack, Ben Harper, Gomez, Lucinda Williams, Joe Cocker, previously unreleased tracks from Sarah McLachlan and Elvis Costello, and the Band from TV's cover of the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want."

The Band from TV is Laurie's group with Heroes star Greg Grunberg, Desperate Housewives' James Denton, Bonnie Somerville from the upcoming ABC dramedy Cashmere Mafia and The Bachelor's Bob Guiney.

Victoria's Secret return to prime time on CBS

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is returning to prime time this winter, albeit the outer limits of prime time.

CBS will be bringing sexy back Dec. 4 at 10 p.m., late enough, execs are hoping, to placate those concerned viewers out there who worry that all that low-cut lace is a little much for those whose bedtimes fall in the 8-10 p.m. range.

Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Karolina Kurkova and Selita Ebanks will be among the professional lovelies taking part in the nearly annual event, which was temporarily replaced by the Angels Across America tour in 2004. The lingerie showcase was booted from the airwaves in 2004 in the wake of Janet Jackson's nipple slip and then again the following year, to avoid antagonizing the FCC.

Ebanks and Kurkova joined Victoria's Secret president and CEO Sharen Tuney Monday at the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street to ring the bell that opens the day's trading and announce the plans for this year's program.

Notably missing from the catwalk this year will be Giselle Bündchen, who parted ways with Victoria's Secret in May after being a frequent catalogue fixture for several years. While neither party gave a particular reason, the breakup reportedly occurred after the upscale undies purveyor refused to raise the leggy Brazilian's $5 million annual salary.

Justin Timberlake headlined last year's special, which returned to CBS after its aforementioned two-year absence, but there's no word yet on what sort of musical accompaniment is in the works for 2007.

Mary-Louise Parker says she naked with snake in promo photo is real

Posing naked for a publicity photo for her offbeat Showtime comedy series "Weeds" was no big deal for Mary-Louise Parker. It was the snake that bothered her.

"I didn't think I was going to do it actually," the 43-year-old actress told AP Radio News in a recent interview. "But then, they were there and the snake was there, and I didn't want the snake to win, so I put the snake on.

"And actually, I grew to really love the snake — by the end of the day."

Parker is shown with the snake over her shoulder and down her back. In one Showtime ad, David Duchovny, who stars in the new series "Californication," is shown with the snake coming over his back, its head on his bare shoulder. He's tossing an apple, with a big bite taken out of it, into the air.

"I've been naked quite a bit, actually," Parker said of posing for the photo. "You Google me, you'll see it all."

The third season of "Weeds," which also stars Kevin Nealon, Elizabeth Perkins and newcomer Matthew Modine, was to premiere Monday night, followed by the series premiere of "Californication."

Parker stars as a widowed suburban mother who starts selling marijuana to support her family in "Weeds."

The actress won an Emmy Award for "Angels in America." She's won two Golden Globe Awards, one for "Angels in America," the other for "Weeds," and had a recurring role on NBC's "The West Wing." Her screen credits include "Fried Green Tomatoes," "Boys on the Side" and "The Client."

Joe Mantegna Joins 'Criminal Minds'

Joe Mantegna is set to fill the "Criminal Minds" vacuum left by departing star Mandy Patinkin.

Ed Bernero, showrunner on the CBS hit drama, made the announcement on Friday (Aug. 10) on a "Criminal Minds" fan blog.

"We are very excited to tell you all that Joe Mantegna is officially joining the cast of 'Criminal Minds,'" Bernero wrote. "Thanks for hanging with us, everyone."

After two years playing FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit leader Jason Gideon, Patinkin left "Criminal Minds" last month. In a statement that followed a week of swirling rumors, both sides said the departure was due to that favorite Hollywood condition of "creative differences."

A number of names, including most prominently Geena Davis and Harvey Keitel, had been reported as Patinkin's potential replacement and it's still unclear what function Mantegna's character will play on the "Criminal Minds," when he'll be introduced and if he'll be the season's only major new cast addition.

Mantegna is a three-time Emmy nominee including a nod this year for his work on USA's "The Starter Wife." His last two regular network series gigs were with CBS, on "Joan of Arcadia" and "First Monday." On the big screen, the David Mamet regular has been seen in "House of Games," "The Godfather III" and "Baby's Day Out."

'High School Musical': Crazy Summer TV

Anyone who considers mid-August a dead time for anything original on television definitely doesn't have an elementary-school-aged girl at home.

This week's Disney Channel premiere of "High School Musical 2" is a Friday-night date for millions of youngsters, and the latest example of how cable has stolen the buzz from its broadcast big brothers this summer.

There's been a run of attention-getting series with big stars on cable, like Holly Hunter in TNT's "Saving Grace," Glenn Close in "Damages" on FX and Debra Messing in "The Starter Wife" on USA.

TNT's "The Closer" routinely beats most of what the broadcasters offer on Monday nights. "Army Wives" became Lifetime's most popular series ever and "Ice Road Truckers" did the same for The History Channel. "Mad Men" on AMC, "Burn Notice" on USA and "House of Payne" on TNT were other intriguing new offerings.

Add in returning favorites like "Monk," and there are nearly 30 scripted cable series offering original episodes from June to September, according to Multichannel News.

"It's a summer to remember," said Tim Brooks, a television historian and Lifetime executive. "It's kind of a game-changer in a way."

On broadcast? Well, there's always "Big Brother 8." Or is it 14?

The original "High School Musical" premiered to 7.8 million viewers in January 2006. August felt right for the sequel because it is set in the summertime, said Scott Garner, Disney Channel's senior vice president for programming. By the 17th, summer camp is generally over and school hasn't started yet.

The new movie features the original cast working and having fun at a country club, with the relationships of its main characters sorely tested. Plenty of new songs are lined up for the youthful audience to sing along to.

"If I was a betting man, I would say it would probably be a (ratings) milestone in cable television this year," Garner said.

Cable networks see an opportunity to snap up bored viewers while ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox essentially shift to autopilot in the summer. This year the trend has gone into overdrive, and it's having an impact. Through midsummer, young viewership was down 14 percent from last year on broadcast schedules clogged with repeats, talent and reality programs. Cable was up slightly, Nielsen Media Research said.

The assumption that so many TV sets are turned off during the summer is becoming obsolete, said Jack Wakshlag, chief researcher at Turner Networks. In 1975, with fewer networks to choose from and fewer homes with air conditioners, summer viewership was 15 percent lower than the rest of the year, he said.

In 2005, that difference was only 3 percent -- and it's moving toward a day when there will be just as much TV-watching in July as January, he said.

Another factor in the summertime bounty of choice is the recognition by cable networks that their success increasingly depends upon having signature series that viewers will seek out. That's why AMC, normally a movie channel, developed "Mad Men."

The competition is keen. In 2000, the average home in the United States had access to 61 channels, Nielsen said. By last year, the typical home got 104 channels.

Until the "who shot J.R.?" phenomenon 27 years ago, broadcast networks more often than not drew little attention to the end of the season in May. Brooks said the strategy of seeking a ratings boost through season-ending special events and series cliffhangers may be counterproductive.

"It may bring you back in the fall to see what happens but it also tells you very explicitly that there's nothing going to happen until the fall," he said. "Viewers are taking that as a signal to go elsewhere."

Broadcasters are hardly blind to what's going on.

They pay so much for scripted programming that economic reality locks them in to repeating episodes to get extra ad revenue. Ratings that may make a series a profitable hit on cable represent failure on the bigger stage of a broadcast network. Unless someone figures out something different, networks are locked in to concentrating on cheap reality programming in the summer, hoping to catch lightning with an unexpected hit.

"We all tried a little bit," said Alan Wurtzel, NBC's chief researcher. "But there is no way you can have a full-fledged, 52-week season, both financially and creatively."

The result is ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox sitting back for another few months as the cable competitors continue to chip away at what has always made them special. That's another few months of viewers not checking those networks first when they settle into their couches.

Eric Deggans, television critic for the St. Petersburg Times, watched pilots for each of the new broadcast series starting this fall. He didn't like any of them. Not one.

"When we get to September and October and all the new shows are tried and people are saying, `I'd still rather watch `Dexter" (on Showtime) than this other stuff, then network TV could have some problems," he said.

The broadcast networks suffered through an unexpectedly slow spring. Can they afford this bummer of a summer?
